LESSON 5 in Computer Hardware Devices
LESSON 5 in Computer Hardware Devices
HARDWARE
DEVICES:
INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES
LESSON OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson you should be
able to:
1. Identify the input and output devices;
2. Differentiate the contributions input and
output devices; and
3. Relate the advantages of hardware
devices in real-life situation
HARDWARE DEVICES
Hardware components are
the physical parts of a PC
that you can touch and see.
These are sometimes called
the Tangible components
Software- applications are
also called the intangible
part of the computer, the
component that cannot be
touched
or seen. These applications
enable you to use your
INPUT DEVICES- are
devices from which a
computer gets a signal on
what it should do. These
devices accept data from
the user.
A. KEYBOARD
-A keyboard is
used to type in
letters, words
or numbers as you
need to in certain
programs.
A. KEYBOARD- It also has certain
keys that you
can press for your
computer to perform
specific functions.
- A keyboard allows
you
also to encode data
for processing by
B. MOUSE
-A mouse
(pointing device)
allows you to
interact with
graphics,
especially in
today’s
B. MOUSE - It also hastens the
execution of some
actions by the
computer,
since it can do some
of the computer
functions that are
normally done using
the
C. SCANNER -Scanner are also
considered as input
devices since they
capture data,
especially image
data, for the
computer to
process according to
the user’s needs.
C. SCANNER
- Scanners are of
different types,
some of
which are photo
scanners, sheetfed
scanners, and
portable scanners.
OUTPUT DEVICES
-are devices that display or
store the results of
processed data.
A.
-A monitor enables you
MONITOR to see the data that is
being processed by the
computer.
-You can also see
through the monitor the
results of data
processing.
A.
- A data being
MONITOR
displayed on your
computer is called
softcopy.
- You can save this
copy into your storage
devices for future use.
B. Printers- are also
example of output
devices. They use
different media in
order to produce a
draft or a high-
quality printout of
your file.
Laser printers the
newer models of
printers, use a toner
to
produce a draft of a
high-quality
document.
Dot matrix printers print
data as a group of dots
forming the
letters or images. They
print using a ribbon,
much like how a
typewriter would
produce an output.
Ink-jet printers the next
generation of printers,
use ink cartridges
to produce a draft or a
high-quality copy of a
document at a faster
rate.
