CREATING A WEB PRESENCE
• One of the most common web presence solutions is a website. When creating
a website, there are several different steps to be completed.
Digital Marketing 7
CREATING A WEB PRESENCE
• Register an appropriate website address: Firstly,
choose the domain name or web address (also known as a
URL) where your site will live. It must be unique and
appropriate to your business name, and easy to remember.
For example: www.myuniquebusinessname.com

• Register with a website hosting service - You also need to register with a
website hosting service who will host your website on a web server. This server
is where all the files and folders that make up your website will live. Often, a
hosting provider is the same service you can use to register the web address.

• Design the site: Consider the design elements of your site. Consider the
purpose of the website by including designing the structure of the website:
the hierarchy of different pages and sections based on how a user would
navigate it.
• Build the site: After the design stage, the website needs to be developed.
You can develop the web pages and content yourself, or hire a web
developer. Before going live, the site must be tested on different browsers
and devices, and all internal links checked.

CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS
• A content management system (CMS): is an authoring and administration tool
for developing and maintaining a website. A CMS offers a simple user interface
for creating and modifying web content, so a user can publish and manage
changes to the site even if they have no programming skills.
