The Number Plane

Learning intention: to be able to plot and locate coordinates


on a number plane.

Coordinates
• We can describe the position of any point on a 2-dimensional plane using
coordinates.
• When we write a coordinate, such as: (3, 5)

x-coordinate y-coordinate
the first number is called the x-coordinate and the second number is called
the y-coordinate.
• always comes first: “Along the corridor and up/down the stairs”
Coordinates on a number plane
