PRINCIPLES OF

MARKETING
What is
Marketing
all about?
What is the goal of
marketing?
In what ways does
marketing influence
everyone’s daily life?
How do we
market?
What is a
product?
A person needs transportation to get to
work.

•Need: Transportation (to get to work)

•Want: A reliable, fuel-efficient car that is

also stylish and comfortable.

•Demand: The person may demand a

specific car model, like a Toyota Prius,
because it aligns with their wants and they
have the financial means to purchase it.
Does your budget as a
student affect your
demands in a product?
refers to the act of
obtaining a desired object
from someone by offering
something of value in
return.
In order for a marketing exchange to occur, these four conditions must
exist:

1. At least two individuals or groups must participate.

2. The exchange should provide a benefit or satisfaction to both

parties.

3. Each party must have confidence in the promise of value held by the
other party.

4. Trust must be built and both parties must meet expectations.

Aside from cash, what
other forms of value can a
customer give to a seller?
“Customer
satisfaction is
worthless.
Customer loyalty
is priceless.”
