What is Structured Cabling ?
 Building or telecommunications cabling
infrastructure that consists of a number of
standardized smaller elements (called subsystems)
Refers to the cabling inside buildings,
campuses, etc using different media types
e.g. copper, coax and fiber optic cables
 Other names:
 Premises Cabling
 ITS or Information Transport Systems
 VDV Cabling or Voice, Data, and Video
 Cabling Data Cabling ( when data
 wiring is only required )
 Telecommunications cabling
 Teledata cabling
Low Voltage
What are the Benefits Of
Structured Cabling ?

Provides flexibility
 Vendor independence
 Easier moves, adds and
changes
 Open system connectivity

Improved return on
investment
 Longer system life
 Lower life cycle cost https://technetpartners.com/intelligent-network-
infrastructure- solutions/structured-cabling/
What is Structured Cabling Systems
(SCS)?
 Structured cabling systems
(SCS): a set of cabling and
connectivity products that
integrates the voice, data,
video and various
management systems of a
bldg. (e.g. safety alarms,
security access, energy
systems, etc.)
 Consists of an open
architecture, standardized
media and lay-out, standard
connection interfaces,
adherence to national and
international standards, and
total system design
and installation.

Goals of
Structured
Cabling
 Systems
Generic cabling system
designed to support a
multi- product, multi-
vendor environment
 Establish
performance and
technical criteria
 Advocate planning of
building cabling for a
useful life in excess of
10 years http://www.esppo.com/structured-cabling-kochi-kerala/

Structured Cabling Today
 SCS today can have fiber optic cable vertical backbone, and copper
cable horizontal cabling.
 Many deployment uses, wireless access points and POE technology
 solutions
Many still prefers pure copper cable deployment. Many installer’s are
 more accustomed to using copper products.
Use of “Centralized Fiber Technology” can remove needs for power,
 ground, and AC connection in the telecom roomsand/or telecoms
closet
 Security or no telecom rooms at all.
SCS systems
today includes
 CCTV auxiliary
video either on UTPsystems
copper such as:
 cable and/or FOC Intrusion alarms
 Card based entry systems and/or
 Building management biometrics
systems access control
 HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air-
 conditioning) Lighting systems
