Abstract
• This project aims to develop a navigation aid using Internet of Things
(IoT) technology for visually impaired individuals, with a focus on
safety optimization.
• The system leverages IoT sensors, such as ultrasonic and infrared
sensors, to detect obstacles and provide real-time feedback to the
user.
• With the integration of AI, the system interprets environmental data
to offer audio cues for safe navigation, enhancing user independence
and confidence.
Introduction
• Visually impaired individuals face significant challenges in independent
navigation, particularly in crowded or unfamiliar environments

• According to WHO, 30 million social classes are forever

outwardly disabled and 285 billion social classes with vision
weakness

• Traditional aids, such as canes and guide dogs, provide limited feedback and
often require user dependency on others for assistance

• This project introduces an IoT-based smart navigation system, designed to

provide real-time assistance by detecting obstacles and guiding users safely
through their surroundings.
Existing System

The current solutions for visually impaired navigation include:

•White Canes: Limited range and require physical contact with obstacles.
•Guide Dogs: Provide companionship and navigation assistance but come
with training costs and limitations.
•GPS-based Apps: Offer directional guidance but do not detect immediate
physical obstacles.
• These systems have limitations in ensuring immediate safety and lack
real-time feedback on the physical surroundings, which is crucial for the
visually impaired
Proposed system
• The proposed system utilizes IoT technology to improve safety and navigation for
visually impaired users by integrating:
• Sensors (Ultrasonic, Infrared, etc.): Detect obstacles within a defined range and
identify their proximity.
• Real-time Processing: Microcontrollers process data from sensors and activate alerts
based on obstacle distance.
• This system ensures a proactive approach to navigation, enhancing the safety and
autonomy of visually impaired individuals.
