Calibration
For the differential signal, the hole can be rotated
to 90° and 1 volt.
For the absolute signal, the support plate signal is
used as a reference to calibrate the channel in the
Voltage Plane.

Manual Measurement of the TSP
1. Acquire the tube.
3. In manual measurement,

Frequency Verification
102°
Select two defects with 20% depth
difference (like OD groove 20% and
40%). 17-degree
difference
Measure the angle of both signals.
For a 20% depth difference, the
angle difference should be around
15°. 119°
In fact, a phase difference between
12° and 18° is fine.
If the angle difference is too small, you
need to increase the frequency
If the angle difference is too high, you
need to reduce the frequency

After TSP Adjustment
After the calibration:
The operating point is
placed at the bottom of
the logarithmic spiral.
A rotation is applied to
the signal to set the
TSP at 180°.
A gain is applied to the
signal to set the TSP at
1 V.
The Amplitude and
Phase strip charts are
updated.

Defect Measurement on Absolute and Differential Signals
In the setup mode, click the System Calibration icon:
In the system
calibration windows:
1. Select Channels &
depth curves.
2. With the red
cursors, select the
defect you want to
measure.
3. Match the defect
selected with its
Reference name.
4. Measure the signal.
5. Repeat step 2 to 4 for all defects (and all tubes), and
then click the Calibrate button.

Defect Measurement Result
After the defect measurement,
you can display the phase to
depth curve by double-clicking
Depth Curves in the Setup
menu.
A curve is displayed for each
type of defect that you have
measured (short, long, taper,
and/or pit).
If you do not have long and
taper defect, the system
extrapolates the depth from the
short defect curve, but no
curve is displayed. To use the defect extrapolation feature, you
need to use the S, L and T extensions for the
absolute channel depth curve.

With the Voltage Plane Option, long and taper defects can
be calibrated with just one short defect.
The mix channel can be calibrated with a minimum of two
pit defects, but three is better.

DIF DIF_MIX
When the Calibrate
button is clicked, the DIF
support plate is
automatic.
Important note:
The support plate mix in remote field is less
efficient than the support plate mix in eddy
current. You should not expect the same
sensitivity.
Because the carbon steel properties change a lot
from tube to tube and also within the same tube,
the residual support plate signal is not constant.
