Types of Hazard
-Geological /Hydro-meteorological Hazard is an adverse
geologic condition capable of causing damage or loss of property or
life.
Geohazards include: volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, mudslides or
landslides, avalanches, glacial surges and outburst floods,
tsunamis, and other land collapses due to thawing permafrost.

-Man-made hazards are events or conditions that are caused by


human activities and have the potential to cause harm to people,
property, or the environment. These hazards can be intentional,
such as acts of terrorism or war, or unintentional, such as industrial
accidents or transportation disasters.
Types of Hazard
-Biological health hazards include bacteria, viruses,
parasites and moulds or fungi. They can pose a threat to
human health when they are inhaled, eaten or come in
contact with skin. They can cause illness such as food
poisoning, tetanus, respiratory infections or parasite
infection.

Risk – the possibility that something bad or unpleasant (such as


an injury or a loss) will happen (Merriam-Webster).

• Disaster – a serious disruption of the functioning of a community


or a society involving widespread human, material, economic or
environmental losses and impacts, which exceeds the ability of
the affected community or society to cope using its own
resources.

Risk Factors underlying disasters:


-Vulnerability – it is the tendency to become incapable of resisting
hazard or the inability to respond after a disaster.

Risk Factors underlying disasters:

-Hazard is a dangerous phenomenon, substance, human activity


or condition that may cause loss of life, injury or other health
impacts, property damage, loss of livelihoods and services, social
and economic disruption, or environmental damage.

-Exposure – is the tendency of losing property, people, systems


and other elements in the society due their presence within the
hazard zones.
