SELF AWARENESS
 The capacity to examine one’s conscious thought and
feelings
 The ability to recognize oneself as an individual separate
from the environment and other individual
 Involves being aware of different aspects of the self
including traits, behaviors, and feelings
TYPES OF SELF AWARENESS
a. Public Self-Awareness
 When people are aware of how they appear to others
 In situations when people are in the center of attention
b. Private Self-Awareness
 When people become aware of some aspects of
themselves, but only in a private way
 People who are publicly self-conscious have a higher
level of public self-awareness
HOW CAN YOU GAIN SELF-AWARENESS
a. Understand your Life Story
 The stories we tell about our lives reveals our
personalities
 Make Narrative Identity
b. Create a Daily Habit of Self-Reflection
 Self-reflection is an activity of thinking about your own
feelings
 Reflection takes in many forms: a journal, through prayer,
and taking long walks or jogs
HOW CAN YOU GAIN SELF-AWARENESS
c. Seek Honest Feedback
 We all have traits that others see, but we are unable to
see in ourselves.
 These our called “blind spots”.
 Receiving feedback is hard. If you feel defensive, think
back to why you do.

FILIPINO VALUE SYSTEM / FILIPINO VALUES
 The set of values or the value system that a majority of the
Filipino have historically held important in their lives.
 Usually centered at maintaining social harmony, motivated
primarily by the desire to be accepted in a group.
 The concept of “Hiya”, roughly translated as ‘sense of shame’
and “Amor propio” or ‘self-esteem’.
LIST OF FILIPINO VALUES
1. Human Activities – the shared sense of identity and consciousness
of the ‘other’
2. Family Orientation – the basic and most important unit of a
Filipino’s life
3. Joy and Humor – ability of Filipinos to find humor in everything
4. Flexibility, Adaptability and Creativity – known to follow a “natural
clock” or organic sense of time – doing things in the time they feel
is right

5. Faith and Religiosity – the Philippines is approximately 85%
Christians (mostly Roman Catholics), 10% Muslims, and 5%
‘other’ religions
6. Ability to Survive – the extraordinary ability to make something out

and persevering in accomplishing whatever they set their minds to

Introduction
“For God, People, Nature and Country” is the national motto of
the Philippines that is derived from the last four lines of the Pledge of
Allegiance to the Flag of the Philippines. Adopted on February 12,
1998 with the passage of Republic Act No. 8491, the Flag and
Heraldic Code of the Philippines, during President Fidel V. Ramos.

ALCOHOL AND CIGARETTES
INTRODUCTION
Cigarette smoking and drinking commonly co-occur
among college students, a population that is at high risk for
developing alcohol and nicotine use disorders. Several
studies have been conducted that have examined predictors
of drinking or smoking to gain a better understanding of the
antecedents of engaging in these behaviors. Yet, few studies
have examined specific factors that influence concurrent
smoking and drinking in this population.
FACTORS
Environment has a significant influence on growth and
development of adolescents, and a negative environment is
a particular hindrance to normal personality formation . In
addition to temporary effects on adolescence, such negative
environments can also have more long-term effects, even
into adulthood.

NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF DRINKING ALCOHOL
Drinking too much can harm your health. It can
lead to several illnesses for example:
• Heart disease
• High Blood pressure
• Cancer and many more.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF DRINKING ALCOHOL
Excessive drinking includes binge drinking,
heavy drinking, and any drinking by pregnant women
or people younger than age 21 can lead to having
illnesses.
POSITIVE EFFECTS OF DRINKING ALCOHOL
Moderate alcohol consumption may provide
some health benefits, such as:
• Reducing possible attack of stroke
• Balances Blood sugar
• Helps your brain
STANDARD DRINK
ABV- Alcohol By Volume
A standard drink contains 0.6 ounces (14.0 grams or
1.2 tablespoons) of pure alcohol. Generally, this amount
of pure alcohol is found in:
12-ounces of beer (5% alcohol content).
8-ounces of malt liquor (7% alcohol content).
5-ounces of wine (12% alcohol content).
1.5-ounces of 80-proof (40% alcohol content)

Smoking causes cancer, heart disease, stroke,
lung diseases, diabetes, and chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes
emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Smoking also
increases risk for tuberculosis, certain eye diseases,
and problems of the immune system, including
rheumatoid arthritis.
NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF SMOKING
These include cardiovascular disease, cancer,
chronic lung disease and diabetes.

for cancer and cardiovascular disease, and is the
leading cause of avoidable disease in most
industrialized countries. But here are some benefits
or positive effects of smoking:
