EXAMPLE
In general, a vector can be represented using arrows. Since
force is a vector, we can also represent it using arrows. The
a
length of the arrow represents the magnitude or size of the
force. The longer the arrow, the larger the force. The
arrowhead points to the direction of the force.
FORCE IS A VECTOR QUANTITY.

Is 10 units of Force directed
East the same as 10 units of
Force directed West?
Explain.

NORTH 10 units of forces directed East is
the same magnitude as 10 units
directed West. However, their
direction is not the same.
Therefore, they are not the same.

The vector components are
the x- and y- dimensions of
the vector.

The horizontal component
is the projection of the
vector onto the horizontal
axis or the x-axis.

ACTIVITY
Balanced forces
Objective: At the end of the activity, the students should be able to
identify and draw balanced force vectors in each scenario.
1. A fruit on a tree
2. A picture frame on the wall
3. A grocery cart moving at a constant speed
4. A jeepney moving at a constant speed
5. An airplane flying at a constant velocity at a constant altitude
6. A man standing still
Balanced forces
Objective: At the end of the activity, the students should be able to
identify and draw balanced force vectors in each scenario.
1. Which of the situations involves an object which is at rest?
2. Which of the situations involves an object which is in motion?
3. How did you determine the direction of the forces?
unBalanced forces
Objective: At the end of the activity, the students should be able to
identify and draw balanced force vectors in each scenario.
1. A falling fruit
2. An accelerating car to the right c
3. A helium-filled balloon recently released
4. A man inside an elevator accelerating upward
5. An airplane taking off
Balanced forces
Objective: At the end of the activity, the students should be able to
identify and draw balanced force vectors in each scenario.
1. Which of the situations indicate balanced forces?
2. Which of the situations indicate unbalanced forces?
3. What is the direction of the unbalanced or net forces in the
given scenarios?
