A Kid-Friendly Suson
What happens sometimes when you get
caught in the rain and get soaked?
Compound
microscope
Before we get to explore how microscopes
work, let's think about what other things
might happen if we don't take care of our
hygiene, what if we don't brush our teeth
regularly?
By the end of today's
lesson, we're going to
learn about the
amazing world of
microscopes!
Let's Be Microscope Detectives!
(Group Activity)

Today, we're going on a mission to

explore a super cool tool in the
science lab: the compound
microscope. This amazing instrument
helps us see things that are way too
tiny for our eyes alone, like the secret
world of cells and bacteria!
Here's how you'll do this mission:
1. Watch the video carefully: Listen
for the names of the different
microscope parts mentioned.
2. Remember, remember: Try your
best to remember the names of these
parts and what they do.
3. Work together: Discuss what you
saw in the video with your group
members. Can you help each other
remember any tricky parts?
Microscope Matching
Challenge!

Mission:
1. Match it up! Look at the picture of the
microscope flash on the screen.
2. Point and Match: On the picture, there
will be labels for different parts of the
microscope (like eyepiece, stage, etc.).
3. Look and Find: Now, look at the real
microscope I'm holding here.
4. Matchmaker, Matchmaker: Point to the
part on the REAL microscope that
matches each label on your picture!
Microscope Mission:
Optical vs. Mechanical
Parts!

Today's mission: Identify

the optical and mechanical
components of a
microscope!
Instructions:
1. Work together: Discuss the list of
microscope parts with your group
members.
2. Optical or Mechanical? Decide
whether each part is used for seeing
(optical) or for holding/adjusting
(mechanical) the microscope.

Remember: There are no wrong answers

here! If you're unsure, discuss it with your
group and don't hesitate to ask for help.
Key points:

What are the main parts of a compound

microscope?
Why is a microscope important for scientific
observation?

Bonus points:
Can you think of any reasons why each microscope
part might be important?
Can you imagine what might happen if a microscope
