Components
1) Input Unit: responsible for taking input

2) Output Unit : responsible for producing output.

3) Central Processing Unit (CPU) : core of any computer devices three major
components of the computer

a) Memory Unit
b) Control Unit
c) Arithmetic and Logical Unit

4) Primary Memory : Primary Memory is a section of computer memory that the CPU can
access directly.

5) Secondary Storage Unit : storage devices that serve as an addition to the computer's
primary storage, RAM and cache memory.
Organisation
Input & Output Devices
• a physical piece of hardware that connects
to a primary device, such as a computer,
in order to provide user input.

• An output device allows data to

be transmitted by the computer
in a human-friendly form
CPU
• The CPU is the brain of a computer, containing all the
circuitry needed to process input, store data, and output
results.
• Main Components:
I. Arithmetic logic unit (ALU) - +,-,*,/
II. Control Unit (CU) – controls instructions
III. Registers – holds important information
Memory
• RAM-RAM is a common computing acronym that stands
for random-access memory. Sometimes it's called PC
memory or just memory. In essence, RAM is your computer
or laptop's short-term memory.
• ROM-ROM (read-only memory) is a non-volatile memory
type. This means it receives data and permanently writes it
on a chip, and it lasts even after you turn off your
computer.
Storage Devices
• Hard Disk –

• Compact Disk-

• Pen Drive-

• Solid state drive-

System Software
• Operating System-An operating system (OS) is the
program that, manages all of the other application
programs in a computer.
• System Utilities-The Utility Software is system
software that helps to maintain the proper and smooth
functioning of a Computer System.
• Device Drivers-A device driver is a special kind of
software program that controls a specific hardware device
attached to a computer.
Application Software
• General Purpose Software-General application
software is designed to perform a wide range of fundamental
functions that a user needs to perform on a system.
• Customized Software- software that is specially
developed for some specific organization or other user.
