Training of

PCB Design
with Altium
Designer
PRESENTED BY AMIT
KUMAR S AXENA
What is a PCB?
 A Printed Circuit Board (PCB) electrically
connects components using conductive
pathways.
 It is used to provide Mechanically support
and electrically connected electronic
components using conductive pathways,
tracks or signal traces etched from copper
sheets laminated on to a non-conductive
substrate.
Types of PCB

Altium Designer: A
Leading PCB Design Tool
 Altium Designer offers powerful tools: Real-time collaboration, 3D
visualization, and integrated libraries.
 Simplifies tasks: Schematic capture to PCB layout and manufacturing
outputs.
Design verification and error-checking.

Essential PCB
Terminologies
 Pad: Metalized area for soldering
components.
 Track: Conductive line connecting
components.
 Via: Allows tracks to pass between PCB
layers.
 Silk Layer: Labels printed on PCB.
 Polygon pour: A group design object that is
made up of simpler

heat dissipation.
Common Errors in
PCB Design
 Short Circuits and Opens: Unintentional
connections or breaks.
 Overlapping Traces: Can cause shorts.
 EMI: Poor layout leading to noise.
 DRC Violations: Design rule violations.
Completed Projects
 +5 and –5 voltage power Regulator
 4 x 4 Keypad
 6 Digit Seven segment Display
 Atmega Development Board
 FT232 Board
 TP4056 Battery charging module
Voltage Regulator of
+5 and –5
Voltage Regulator ICs: ICs like LM7805 (+5V) or LM7905 (-5V) for
voltage regulation.
Input Capacitors: Electrolytic capacitors to filter input voltage and
reduce ripple.
Output Capacitors: Ceramic capacitors to stabilize output voltage and
minimize noise.
Resistors: Resistors with appropriate values to set output voltage and
limit current.
Diodes: Diodes for reverse voltage protection and to prevent output
voltage from exceeding input voltage.

module
Components Required:
TP4056 IC: The core of the charging circuit.
Input Voltage Source: A power supply or adapter that provides the
appropriate input voltage for the TP4056.
Resistors: To set the charging current and provide feedback.
Capacitors: For filtering and stability.
Diode: For reverse voltage protection.
Inductor: Optional, for reducing ripple in the input current.
