 What is File Extension?


File extensions help computers
identify which program to use to
open a file. For example, the
extension ".docx" tells a computer
that Microsoft Word can open the
file. If a file doesn't have an
extension, the computer won't
know which program to use.
Also human can also identify the
files type by extension. As a
example, “.ppt” is a powerpoint file
extension.
