BLOOD DONATION

What is Blood Donation ?


Human blood is covered under the definition of “Drugs”
under
Section 2(b) of Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940.
• A healthy adult can safely donate
approximately 8-10% of his/her Blood volume
without any adverse effects.

• This Blood is used as treatment in several


emergency situations with blood loss like
accidents or post delivery bleed
OR
elective situations where due to various
diseases patients have a low Hb or other
factors of blood.

Who is a volunteer?

A person who gives blood, plasma or other

blood components of his/her own free will and

receives no payment for it, either in the form of

cash or in-kind.
