Fun with Pivot Charts

Basic Steps
Need data from excel in a table format
See assignment for the spreadsheet
Select a cell in the current table
To create a PivotTable
◦ Select Insert then PivotTable
Select a table or range
New worksheet
Manipulate the Field List
From the PivotTable you can create
various Pivot Charts or graphs
Graphs
Insert
PivotChart
Select chart type
Click OK

 Follow these instructions on how to create a pivot table.


o Select a cell within your data and click ‘Insert’ on the top ribbon, then select ‘Pivot Table’
o From the ‘Create PivotTable’ window, you can select your data, which is done automatically
if you selected a cell within your data, and you can choose where to place your pivot table.
Once you have made your selections, click ‘OK.’
o Navigate over to the new worksheet
o From this worksheet, you notice how your pivot table is currently blank. However, the field
list is automatically populated with the columns from your data set. There are also a few
areas below the list of columns: ‘Report Filter,’ ‘Column Labels,’ ‘Row Labels,’ and ‘Values.’
Dragging columns to this row builds the PivotTable and populates it with data.

o Now that you have the table, you can create chart to go along with it to visualize the data.
Select your pivot table, and then click ‘Options’ under the PivotTable Tools ribbon. Click
