Practice Questions: Answer the

questions in full sentences in your
book1.What is hardware in a computer system?
2.What is software in a computer system?
3.How do hardware and software work together
in a computer system?

Steps to success:
• Remember to use Capital

sentence
elements of the FDE cycle.
• Use the text to answer the
questions

Answers: Check and

correct!
1.Hardware in a computer system refers to the
physical components of a computer, such as the
motherboard, CPU, RAM, hard drive, and
keyboard.
2.Software in a computer system refers to the
intangible and non-physical components, such as
operating systems, applications, and games.
3.Hardware and software work together in a
computer system by the hardware providing the
necessary physical components for the software to
run, and the software providing the instructions for
the hardware to follow. An example would be

Scenario: Read the scenario and respond in your books.

Suppose you are a computer technician, and a

customer comes to you with a problem.
They explain that their computer is not
functioning properly, and they don't know
what the issue is.
Using the information in the class reading,
how would you determine if the problem is
with the hardware or the software and give
an example of each? HINT: Think about
what questions might
you need to ask to
find out the problem?
LA: Describe the difference between hardware and software

OWR – Which is a better

response?
Answer 1:
The problem is either with the hardware or software. If
the computer is not turning on, then it is probably the
hardware. If it is not responding, then it is probably
the software.
ANSWER 2 :
I would first ask the customer to describe the specific
issues they are experiencing with their computer. For
example, if the computer is not turning on, the problem
could be with the hardware components such as the
power supply. If the customer is unable to access a
particular application or the operating system is not
responding, the problem could be with the software.

your answer

Explain why the following statement is incorrect!

See if you can include an example

Software is useful for inputting

information into a computer.

The statement is incorrect because software is

not a physical component of a computer
system. Only physical elements of a computer
system can INPUT data into a computer system
such as Keyboards therefore, the statement is
describing hardware.
