How to get the most out of this workshop
This workshop introduces young people to the topic of international aid and its
transformative powers. It encourages them to discuss, challenge and champion
the kind of aid they want to see in future. At the end of the workshop, we are
inviting young people to develop and present their vision for UK aid and to
share this vision with their friends, family and decision makers.

Glossary
Developing a country with little industrial and economic activity and where people generally have
country low incomes.
DFID the Department for International Development, which is a UK government department
that focuses on tackling global poverty by investing UK aid in a range of projects and
places.
Inequality the unfair situation in society when some people have more opportunities, money, etc.

International aid a voluntary transfer of resources and expertise from one country to another. The aid
support can be economic, military, or emergency humanitarian.

National income the total amount of money earned by a nation's people and businesses.

SDGs a set of 17 global goals called the Sustainable Development Goals. They aim to create a
better world for everyone by 2030.
Sustainable an activity which does not consume or destroy resources or the environment.

UK aid the money the UK invests in aid projects internationally, managed by DFID. The budget
for UK aid is set at 0.7% of the UK's national income, which means the amount can go up
or down each year.
United Nations an international organization of 193 countries founded in 1945. It is responsible for
maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among
nations and achieving international cooperation.
