VOLLEYBALL

 Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six

players are separated by a net. Each team tries to
score points by grounding a ball on the other team's
court under organized rules
 Rally and Serving:
 A rally begins with a player serving the ball from behind the back boundary line.
 The ball must be tossed or released and hit with a hand or arm.
 The serve must go over the net and land in the receiving team's court.
 Receiving and Returning:
 The receiving team must prevent the ball from grounding in their court.
 The team is allowed up to three touches to return the ball to the other side.
 No individual player may touch the ball twice consecutively.
 Attacking:
 The first two touches are generally used to set up an attack.
 An attack aims to direct the ball over the net in a way that makes it difficult for
the opposing team to return it, thereby winning the rally.
 Scoring:
 The team that wins the rally scores a point.
 The winning team serves the ball to start the next rally.
 Common Faults:
 Out of Bounds: Causing the ball to touch the ground outside the
opponent's court or not passing over the net.
 Catching and Throwing: Illegally catching or throwing the ball.
 Double Hit: A player making two consecutive contacts with the ball.
 Four Hits: The same team making four consecutive contacts with
the ball.
 Net Foul: Touching the net during play.
 Foot Fault: The server’s foot crosses the boundary line during a
serve or a front-row player’s foot crosses under the net while trying
to keep the ball in play.
HISTORY

 Inventor:
 The sport was invented by William George Morgan in 1895 by a
YMCA physical education director in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
 Original Name:
 The sport was originally named mintonette because it was derived
from badminton.
 Connection to Basketball:
 The inventor was a one-time student of James Naismith, the inventor
of basketball.
The FIVB approved
volleyball ball weighs 260-
290gms and has a
circumference of 65-67cm
(25.5-26.5 inches) with a
psi of 4.3-4.6.
 Volleyball Overview
 An action-packed sport that rewards strategy, athleticism, and teamwork.
 Players must anticipate their opponent’s moves and react quickly.
 Although it may seem complicated, the game revolves around six fundamental actions.
 Six Fundamental Actions:
 Serving: Initiating the play by hitting the ball over the net to the opponent’s side.
 Passing: Receiving the serve or a hit from the opponent and directing the ball to a teammate.
 Setting: Usually the second touch, where a player positions the ball for a teammate to attack.
 Spiking: An aggressive attack hit aimed to land the ball in the opponent’s court.
 Blocking: A defensive move where players jump near the net to prevent the opponent’s spike from crossing into their court.
 Digging: A defensive action to prevent the ball from hitting the court after an opponent’s attack.
