History of the
Game
kabaddi was originated in Tamil
Nadu over 4,000 years ago.
Past fans include the Buddha,
and the princes who played to
display their strength and win
their brides. Kabaddi was being
played at a competitive level
internationally. The sport
became part of the Beijing
Asian Games in 1990
Key Points of the history of kabaddi
• Modern kabaddi is a synthesis of the game played in various forms under
different names. Kabaddi received international exposure during the 1936
Berlin Olympics, Hanuman Vyayam Prasarak Mandal, Amaravati,
Maharashtra. The game was introduced in the Indian Olympic Games at
Calcutta in 1938.
• Muhammad Sarwar as Secretary-General. Kabaddi was introduced and
popularized in Japan in 1979. The Asian Amateur Kabaddi Federation sent
Prof. Sundar Ram of India to tour Japan for two months to introduce the game
• In 1950 the All India Kabaddi Federation came into existence and compiled
standard rules. The Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) was founded
in 1973. while the women's were in AKFI has given new shape to the rules.
• The Asian Kabaddi Federation (AKF) was founded under the chairmanship of
kabaddi.
Rules and regulations of
kabaddi
1)Team:
•Minimum 10 players & Maximum 12 players
•But 7 players play the match in the ground and the remaining are substitutes who can replace the
players on the ground at any time necessary.
2)Duration:
•
Match consists of two halves each as long as 20 min with interval of 5 min.
•The last raider of each half of the match gets to complete the raid even after completion of the time.
3)Score:
• It is active when there are minimum of 6 players Green card: It is a warning sign. If green
