When does anger occur? Desire, the root of anger arises only when there is an awareness of one s being i.e. I am . This awareness is pleasurable and a human being feels desire cause distress because these desires have selfish motives and are fulfilled with the cost of other s discomfort or suffering According to Hindu mythology, satwa (goodness, knowledge) rajas(activity, passion) and tamas(ignorance, inactivity) are three gunas that determine one s personality and behavior

Inhibition of anger is valuable to change bad habits, to reduce our attention to unwanted thoughts and behaviors or to deal with circumstances that are beyond our control. When anger is inhibited, the individual has not directly dealt with the anger stimulus and consequently may relieve the experience for some time

Expression of anger or grief can decrease one s well being however, researchers are of the view that neither expression nor inhibition makes us better or worse It is seen that men more frequently perpetrate violence on women than vice-versa

Adolescent anger
They desire to make their own decisions like adults but have not yet acquired the skills nor discipline necessary for effective and appropriate decision-making There are often continuous fights between parents and adolescents in the form of arguments, withdrawal on everyday issues Parental rules and values are challenged or broken. This leads to parental anger and perpetuates anger in adolescents Adolescents engage in a wide range of antisocial activities. These include stealing damaging other s property and setting fires When there is parental interference these people develop negative feelings towards parents, which are slowly displaced in angry outbursts to others
