Advantages of Networking
Easy Communication Computer networking allows communication between people who
are sitting far from each other. They can communicate via e-mails instant messaging or
internet telephony.
2. Rapid File Sharing Networking can make file sharing very fast which saves a lot of
time.
3. Cost Efficient With computer networking, various software products can be installed on
a server and can be used by various other computers.
4. Resource Sharing: It offers sharing of hardware For example: A printer or a scanner can
be shared among computers on a network without installing individual printer or scanner
for each and every computer on the network. This drastically reduces the cost of
purchasing the hardware.
5. Network Security Network users have access to only certain files and applications
which provide network security.
Disadvantages Of Networking
Expansive to Install: Purchasing various network components, cables and software can be
really expensive.
2. Loss of Resources: The breakdown of whole network due to server problem may lead
tools of crucial information and resources.
3. Security Threats Large networks are always prone to hacker's attacks, which may lead
to theft of valuable data of organizations.
4. Administration: Managing a large networks require proper training and network
There are several types of networks depending upon the numbers of
computers, area of coverage and data transfer speed.
Local Area Network (LAN)A local area network is a group of computers
that are linked together within the same organotin or a building.
Sometimes LAN may extend to several buildings. The data
transmission speed in type of network is usually slower than that of
WANs. These networks are useful in offices communicate, connect and
share files resources.
Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)Metropolitan area network covers a
large, geographical area than LAN. It spans a city or differed parts of a
city The data transfer speed is high in these type of networks. You can
think of a MAN as an office or organization having its various branches
in different parts of a city.
Wide Area Network (WAN)Wide area network connects various LANs
over a larger geographical area (cities, states al countries). In a WAN,
one network may be several hundred kilometer away from another
one. Wide area networks are generally connected through the leased
lines or telephones system. The data transfer speed depends on the
Network Topology Network topology is the physical or logical arrangement of
a network. It describes how differ nodes in computer are linked together and
communicate The different network topologies are given below1. Bus
Topology In computer networking, a bus is a cable or a wire to which all the
devices or nodes in a local area network (LAN) are connected. The cable in
known as the backbone of the network. Each node is directly connected to
every other node in the topology. Advantages These networks are easy to
install and are inexpensive. It is very easy to connect a new computer or a
device to a network. It is used in small networks such as
LANs.DisadvantagesIf any problem arises in the cable, the whole network
shuts down If the traffic in the network is heavy, it decreases the performance
of the nodes.2. Star Topology In star topology, workstations or nodes are
connected to a central computer called a hub. All the workstations are
directly connected to the hub. The sending and receiving of data is managed
by the hub. Advantages. New nodes can be connected without troubling other
nodes. Malfunctioning of one node does not affect the functioning of any
other node. If the hub fails, it disturbs the whole system. The performance of
the network depends on the capacity of the hub. Disadvantages.• The cost of
