Aim of the Activity:

To draw the graph of and demonstrate

the concept of mirror reflection about the
line y = x .

Material Required:
Graph paper, coloured thread, ruler ,
Fevicol, geometry box.
Procedure:

1. On the paper, draw two lines, perpendicular to each other

and name them X’OX and YOY’ as rectangular axes.

2. Graduate the axes by taking x axis = 1 unit = 2.5 cm and

y axis = 1 unit = 2cm.

3. Mark the points .

4.
and name the points as N’1 , N’2, N’3.
5. Join these points with the help of colour pencil on both
the sides of x-axis to get the graph of y = sinx from - to
.

6. Draw the graph of line y =x.

7. From the points N1, N2, N3, N’1 , N’2, N’3 , draw
perpendicular on the line y = x.
8. produce these lines such that length of perpendicular
on both sides of the line y = x are equal.

9. Mark these points as I1,I2,I3,I’1, I’2, I’3.

10. Join these points with the help of colour pencil on both
the sides of x-axis and it represents the graph of y =
between -1 and 1.
Observation :
It is observed that I1,I2,I3,I’1, I’2, I’3 are the mirror
image of points N1, N2, N3, N’1 , N’2, N’3 about the
line y= x(mirror) .

Result :
Hence, the graph of y = is the mirror image of y = sinx
about the line y=x.
