INDIVIDUAL ORAL

English IA

SL: 30% weightage

HL: 20% weightage
The Global Issue is the
backbone of the IO. Anything
not related to the GI is
irrelevant.
You are not expected to give a
line by line commentary of the
extract. Even 3 clear references
to the extract to bring out the
GI is sufficient.
The focus should be on the
PRESENTATION of the
global issue, and NOT the
global issue itself.

Remember this is an
ENGLISH exam.
Two Challenges

1. BALANCE

2. TIME constraints
• Introduction: 45 seconds
• Context and analysis of extract 1: 2
minutes
• Analysis of 2 texts from BOW/Wider
work : 2 minutes (I minute each)
• Transition: 30 seconds (or less!)
• Context and analysis of extract 2: 2
minutes
• 7. Analysis of 2 texts from
BOW/Wider work : 2 minutes
(I minute each)
•8. Conclusion: 45 seconds
•Adapt as necessary!
