Characteristics of applied scientific
research:
1. Relevance to practice of business: research must have a clear, specific and
important purpose to solve or improve a situation.

2. Rigor: research must be free of errors, especially when collecting and


analyzing data.

3. Testability: research must not address issues that can not be measured or
proven false.

4. Replicability: the research procedures are explained in detail so that others


may replicate the study.

5. Objectivity: conclusions of the research come from actual data.

6. Intelligibility: study is understood by managers and non-specialists.

• The CIO notices that the newly implemented 15 million EGP
ERP system is not being used. She begins to ask why.
• She talks with some of the employees about why they are not
using the system. She also reads studies on resistance to new
ERP systems in companies.

training.
• She designs a new training program to solve the problem.
• She implements the program by offering it to patch of
employees.
• She evaluates the results and concludes with several lessons
learned.

designs a promotion campaign targeting these customers.
