INTRODUCTION

Software development methodology is defined as a

framework for developing information systems,
focusing on planning and organization. It benefits both
teams and customers by improving efficiency and
adaptability to changes. (Akshay Badkar, 2024).
CONTINUATION

Waterfall and Agile are the two most used Software

Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Models. Hence it is very
common to face a problem – waterfall model or agile model,
which one to choose and why. To shower light upon this
waterfall vs agile model, let us see a detailed discussion of
their differences.
WATERFALL

Waterfall is a linear and sequential approach where each

phase must be completed before the next one begins. It
requires thorough documentation and is less adaptable
to changes, making it suitable for projects with well-
defined requirements.

AGILE METHODOLOGY

The Agile methodology is a project management

approach that involves breaking the project into phases
and emphasizes continuous collaboration and
improvement. Teams follow a cycle of planning,
executing, and evaluating.
AGILE METHODOLOGY CIRCLE
AGILE PRINCIPLE

 An agile project is segmented into several incremental

steps that include regular feedback intervals.
 A project requirement is segmented into smaller
pieces, which are then prioritized by importance.
 Promotes collaboration, especially with the customer.
CONTINUATION

 Adjusts at regular intervals to ensure a customer’s

needs are met
 Integrates planning with execution, which allows a
team to effectively respond to changing requirements
ADVANTAGES OF AGILE
METHODOLOGY
 Adaptability

 Fast issue detection

 More efficient
DISADVANTAGES OF AGILE
METHODOLOGY
 Transitional difficulties: Teams migrating to the Agile methodology from
more traditional methods, such as Waterfall, may find the transition
challenging.
 Lack of documentation: In the Agile methodology, comprehensive project
documentation isn’t as prevalent as in the Waterfall methodology, making
it difficult to extract exact details, budget, and even communicate if teams
aren’t mindful.
CONTINUATION

 Scope creep: Because the end goal is less definite than

in other methodologies, Agile projects can be
particularly susceptible to scope creep

CONCLUSION

Software Development methodologies are important in

software development and also benefit organizations in
multiple ways by helping software developers produce
high-quality software products and cost-effective
software.
CONCLUSION

Understanding the fundamental differences between Agile and Waterfall is essential for
making informed decisions about software development projects. By considering the
unique characteristics and requirements of each project, organizations can choose the
methodology that best aligns with their goals and ensures successful outcomes.

If the way modern developers work had to be summed up in one word, Agile is a good
choice. For decades, the Agile methodology has played a central role in shaping the
software development lifecycle (SDLC), the set of processes that developers follow to
write, test, deploy, and update software.
