ACTIVITY 1

Convert the following:

1. 1KB = ___________MB
2. 1 MB = __________ KB
3. 1GB = ____________ MB
4. 5 MB = ___________ KB
5. 2 KB = ___________ B

LEARNING
OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

○ Give the differences of
each measuring unit

○ Calculate data storage

○ Appreciate converting one

unit to another.

CALCULATING DATA
STORAGE

Bit is the smallest representation of data, the most

basic unit of digital storage is the byte. A byte is 8
bits and is the smallest unit of measure (UOM) used
to represent data storage capacity.
OM
SLIDESMANIA.C
1KB 1024 bytes
1 MB 1,048,576 bytes
1GB 1,073,741,824
bytes
1,099,511,627,776 BYTES
1 TB
When referring to storage space, we use the terms
bytes (B), kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB), gigabytes
(GB), and terabytes (TB).

1 Byte 8 bits 1 Gigabyte 1024 Megabytes

1 Byte 0.0001 Kilobyte 1 Gigabyte 0.0001 Terabytes

1 Kilobyte 0.0001 Megabytes 1 Terabytes 0.0001 Petabyte

Once we know the size of a file or folder, it is
possible to determine the number of bytes being
used. For example:

A file is 20 KB in size
1 KB = 1,024 Bytes
20 * 1,024 = 20,480 bytes in a 20 KB file

Other examples

If a 20 KB file is stored in a 1 MB folder (1 MB =

1,048,576 bytes of space); then approximately a
total of 51 files can be stored in that folder
(1,048,576 / 20,480 = 51.2).

1.If a flash drive has 8 Gigabytes capacity, how
does it represent in Megabytes?
2. In a hard drive has 3 terabytes capacity, what is
the equivalent value in gigabytes?
3. There is 1 DVD item has a value of 25
Megabytes, how many kilobytes in 1 DVD?
