Background

MAED-1
Background of the Study
• This part shows the origin of the problem.
• It is an account describing the
circumstances which suggested the
research.
• It also include the rationale for conducting
the study.
Tips on How To Write the Background of the study:
Discuss the following:
1. problem in general and the specific situations (from observations and/ or
experiences).
2. concepts and ideas related to the problem
3. present conditions and what is aimed to be in the future or the gap to be
filled-in by research
Answer the questions:
What facets of the problem (phenomenon) are known and needs further
investigation?
What approaches have been used previously in research of the problem?
SAMPLE BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Title:
SPIRAL PROGRESSION APPROACH IN
MATHEMATICS AS PERCEIVED BY THE
TEACHERS IN PUBLIC JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL OF
SANTA ROSA , LAGUNA
1st paragraph:
Narrate and explain about
the title on how it it
works.

2nd paragraph:
State the problem that’s
being encountered using the
Spiral Progression Approach
3rd paragraph:
Emphasise more the problem, reason or reasons why it is
necessary to conduct the study
Conceptual
Framework

The conceptual framework is a crucial element of any

research project. It acts as a roadmap, guiding the researcher
through the entire investigation process.
 Based on the theoretical framework, create YOUR OWN
IDEA on how you will investigate the variables in your
study.
 Specific direction on how you will carry out your research.
Use different paradigm appropriate to your
study:

ACTION RESEARCH _ (IPO)

Independent Variable-Dependent Variable
(IVDV)
Statement of the Problem (SOP)
- Sub-problems: contains the variables needed in the study , and their
measurements
- Main-problem: investigates the significant relationship or
difference between or among variables. (Quantitative Research)
-Answers for the sub problems should lead to the answers for the
main problem.
Example: OBJECTIVE
