Procedure of the Study

(Data Gathering Procedure)


Definition

Identify your sources of data. If a questionnaire will be used, explain


what kind and how it will be constructed if it is original, how it is pre-tested,
distribution, retrieval, collation, etc. Thus, your procedures may include:
Construction of the questionnaire, Validation, Distribution, Retrieval,
Collation, Presentation of Data and Interpretation of Data.

Example 1

The first step before going to the testing proper is to make a request
letter. Upon approval, the researcher retrieves the request letter. The
Principal, as well as class advisers and other faculty members were
selected in the administration. In administering the questionnaire, the
researcher used the time allotted for vacant to avoid distractions of class
discussions. The student responses were given enough time to answer the
questions. After data gathering, the researcher now collected it for tallying
the scores and to apply the statistical treatment to be used with the study.
Example 2

The original title proposed by the researcher was checked, revised and rechecked
by the researcher’s adviser to maintain conformity about research. The questionnaire-
checklist that aims to draw out proper responses on the objectives of this study was
constructed. This questionnaire – checklist made by the researcher and was presented to,
analyzed and checked by the research adviser to ensure the validity of responses it would
elicit. Permit to conduct research and study was secured of letter requesting permission
to the principal of Laboratory High School at Laguna State Polytechnic University. Data
gathered from answered questionnaires were checked, classified , tabulated and
analyzed according to the research design described in this chapter using Microsoft Excel
and prepared for final presentation to the experts of different fields of specialization.
Example 3

The researchers personally administered the research instruments to the


respondents. They conferred and discussed the significance of the study and
accomplished the distribution of the instruments properly. The respondents were given
15 minutes to accomplish the forms to prevent them from giving hasty responses. The
researchers went from one section to another on collecting the accomplished
questionnaires. After the questionnaires have been accomplished, the results were
tallied and tabulated. These data became the bases of analysis and interpretation.

Example 4

160 questionnaires were distributed among 6 early years’ settings. The manager
was first contacted by phone and invited to take part in the study. If they agreed to, they
received a consent letter explaining what was required of them. They were then given
several questionnaires, consent letters and consent forms, which they distributed to
mothers of children attending their setting. When mothers finished filling out the
questionnaire and signing the consent form, they returned it to the setting, where it
was kept in a concealed box, provided by the researcher. The researcher then returned
to the setting the end of that week to collect the questionnaires.
Example 5

The respondents in this study were the English teachers and students in SMK, Section 7
and SMK Section 9. A briefing will be given before the questionnaires are distributed. The
content of the briefing consist of objective of the case study and type of the questions in the
questionnaires. Data collections were conducted during normal class hour for the students and
working hour for teachers or any suitable time. The researcher also used mailed questionnaires
data collection in which the researcher emailed the questionnaire to members of the sample.
The total administration of the questionnaire lasted between ten and fifteen minutes. The
questionnaires were then collected upon completion. Consists of morning and afternoon
session. Distribute the questionnaire The questionnaire would be distributes during normal
school hour or any suitable time. Collect the questionnaire -The completed questionnaire
collected after 10-15 minutes.
