Spelling of regular verbs
• 1. The last consonant is doubled when it is preceded by
one vowel and when the last syllable is stressed. Ex:
stop-stopped; prefer-preferred but visit – visited or offer _

• 2. In verbs ending in e, we only add d. Ex: love-loved;
save-saved.
• 3. In verbs ending in y preceded by a consonant, y
changes to i. Ex: hurry-hurried; deny-denied but play-
played.
