ADDICTION
Addiction is a treatable, chronic medical
disease involving complex interactions

experiences. People with addiction use
substances or engage in behaviors that
become compulsive and often continue
despite harmful consequences
CLASSIFICATIO
N OF
DANGEROUS
DRUGS
In general, addictive drugs may be
classified as Stimulants,
Depressants, Hallucinogens, or
Inhalants. These four drug
classifications separate substances by
how they interact with the brain and
alter a person's mindset and behavior.
STIMULANTS
Many users experience a loss of
appetite, increased heart rate,
elevated blood pressure and body
temperature, interrupted sleep
patterns, panic, hallucinations, and
irritability. Taking high dosages of
stimulants can result in convulsions,
seizures, and possibly even death
EXAMPLES OF STIMULANTS

Amphetamines Betel nut

Use to treat with ADHD, Obesity In small doses, it can create
a sense of euphoria and
alertness
Caffeine is a stimulant, which
means it increases activity in
your brain and nervous system

Cocaine is a stimulant drug,

which means that it speeds up
the messages travelling between
the brain and the rest of the body.
In the brain, Nicotine
increases the release of brain
chemicals called
neurotransmitters, which help
regulate mood and behavior.

Khat causes an immediate

increase in blood pressure and heart
rate. Khat can also cause a brown
staining of the teeth, insomnia, and
gastric disorders. Chronic abuse of
khat can cause physical exhaustion.
METHAMPHETAMINE
HYDROCHLORIDE
 Methamphetamine is a
powerful, highly addictive
stimulant that affects the
central nervous system. It
takes the form of a white,
odorless, bitter-tasting
crystalline powder that
easily dissolves in water
or alcohol
DEPRESSANTS
substances reduce arousal
and stimulation. They affect
the central nervous system,
slowing down the messages
between the brain and body.

perception. It is
chemically similar to
stimulants and
hallucinogens. MDMA is
commonly called Ecstasy
or Molly.
INHALANTS
are volatile substances that
produce chemical vapors that
can be inhaled to induce a
psychoactive, or mind-
altering, effect.
VOLATILE SOLVENTS
Volatile solvents are gases, such as
butane gas fumes, or liquids, such as
gasoline or paint thinner, that
vaporise at room temperature. If
inhaled their propellant gases can cause
psychoactive effects. Regular use can
lead to dependence and a range of
associated health problems.
