ABSTRACT
● This introduces a comprehensive driver drowsiness detection system designed
to enhance road safety by mitigating the risks associated with driver fatigue.
● The eye movement patterns are analyzed to assess the driver's alertness
level.
● The main components used are eye blink sensor and buzzer. If the system
detects prolonged eye closure or signs of drowsiness, an immediate alert is
triggered.
● To ensure prompt action, a buzzer is activated within milliseconds to alert the
driver.
INTRODUCTION
● Vehicle accidents are most common if the driving is inadequate.
● Driver drowsiness is recognized as an important factor in the vehicle
accidents.
● This project involves measure and controls the eye blink using IR sensor. The
IR transmitter is used to transmit the infrared rays in our eye.
● By Sensing the eye blinks, we can decide if the eye blinks are more then the
driver is very sleepy, the buzz sound awakes the driver.

Problem Statement
● Driver’s inattention might be the result of a lack of alertness when driving due
to driver drowsiness and distraction.
● Driver distraction occurs when an object or event draws a person’s attention
away from the driving task.
● Both driver drowsiness and distraction, might have the same effects, that is
decreased driving performance, longer reaction time, and an increased risk of
crash involvement.
PROBLEM OBJECTIVES
● The main purpose of the drowsiness detection system is to aid in the
prevention of accidents passenger and commercial vehicles.
● The system will detect the early symptoms of drowsiness before the driver has
fully lost all attentiveness and warn the driver that they are no longer capable
of operating the vehicle safely.

COMPONENTS
ARDUINO UNO:
● In our project we used Arduino Uno as it consists of various pins, which
makes it more compatible and can be used to connect different electronic
components.
● Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328P. It has 14
digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog
inputs.
EYE BLINK SENSOR
● Infrared sensors consist of two elements, a transmitter and a receiver.
● The transmitter is basically an IR LED, which produces the signal.
● IR receiver is a photodiode, which senses the signal produced by the
transmitter.
RELAY
● It can be used to control devices such as lights, fans, motors, solenoids, etc.
● 5V relay has three high voltage terminals (NC, C, and NO) which connect to
the device you want to control.
● The other side has three low voltage pins (Ground, Vcc, and Signal) which
connect to the Arduino.
DC Motor

● A DC motor (Direct Current motor) is the most common type of motor. DC

motors normally have just two leads, one positive and one negative.
● If you connect these two leads directly to a battery, the motor will rotate. If
you switch the leads, the motor will rotate in the opposite direction.
BUZZER
● A buzzer or beeper is an audio signaling device, which may be mechanical,
electromechanical, or piezoelectric (piezo for short).
● In this project, Buzzer is used for awakening of driver if the driver felt any
drowsiness during driving.

WORKING
● There is a Eye blink Sensor which senses the eye movement of a person.
● The eye blink sensor constantly sends infrared waves which are reflected and
detected by the receiver. As soon as the eye blinks the output of the sensor
goes high.
● If the driver closes his eye for more than a second ,the Buzz sound will start
and the vehicle stops immediately.
● Until the driver opens his eyes the buzz sound will continue ,After he opens
his eyes the wheels will be rotate.
OUTPUT
Advantages & Applications
Advantages:
● Efficiency while driving and safe driving.
● Decreased death rates.
Applications:
●Other applications of eye blink sensor include scientific studies to measure
fatigue.
●It can be used for research purposes to count number of eyeblinks in various
different situations.

Conclusion
● Hence driver drowsiness detection is a very important part for the driver while
he drives the car.
● So every driver should have a drowsiness detection system in his vehicle so
that he can be almost safe and secure from road accidents, deaths from road
accidents.
● A sleep of even a second can take the life of the driver. Then why to take any
risk? This risk can be prevented when the driver uses the drowsiness detection
system.
Future Scope
● By placing onboard cameras in the vehicle and that live streaming with the
help of Machine learning to refine detection algorithms, enabling more
precise differentiation between normal blinking and signs of drowsiness.
