Introduction
• A spring assist piezo generator is a device that uses a spring to apply
mechanical force to a piezoelectric material, which in turn produces an
electrical voltage. The piezoelectric effect occurs when mechanical stress is
applied to certain materials, causing them to produce an electric voltage.
•It uses the piezoelectric effect to convert mechanical energy from an oscillating
spring into electrical energy.

Objectives
• Generating power: The generator should be able to generate power when a
weight is applied to it.
• Identifying the piezoelectric effect: The generator should be able to identify the
piezoelectric effect and how it produces voltage and current.
• Developing a generator: The generator should be able to develop electricity from
vibrations.
• Piezoelectric generators work as a transducer that collets useful energy from
wasted sources, such as mechanical vibrations, that can be used to power
microdevices.
Working Principle
The system makes use of 2 peizo generators in orders to generate small energy
charges when pressed. The system has 2 peizos mounted on opposite sides of a
flexible metal strip. One peizo plate is mounted on the bottom surface while other
one is mo8unted on top surface opposite it. The flexible rod is attached with 2
springs on either sides, one on top and other at the bottom. These springs are each
connected to respective peizo sensors. Finally we attach a suitable weight at the
corner end of the flexible metal strip When we apply force to push the strip and
leave it the flexible strip oscillator up and down for quite some time due to spring
mechanism. This alternately pushes each peizo plate for a short duration of time.
This allows for recurring charge generation from peizo sensors for quote some
time. Finally we hereby use a small electric circuitry with an electric led to
indicated power generated by glowing the led.

Disadvantages
1. limited Power Output: They typically produce small amounts of power, which may
not be sufficient for high-energy applications.
2. Efficiency Issues: The conversion efficiency of mechanical energy to electrical energy
can be low, meaning much of the input energy is lost.
3. Wear and Tear: Mechanical components, such as springs, can degrade over time,
affecting performance and reliability
4. Sensitivity to Load Variations: Their output can be inconsistent depending on the
load and the speed of the mechanical input.
5. Cost: Depending on the design and materials used, they can be more expensive
compared to other energy harvesting technologies.
6. Size and Integration: They may require more space and complex integration into
existing systems compared to other compact energy harvesting solutions.
Applications
1.Wearable Devices: Used in fitness trackers and smartwatches to convert body movement
into electrical energy, prolonging battery life.
2.Remote Sensors: Powering low-energy sensors in remote locations where replacing
batteries is impractical.
3. Smart Shoes: Embedded in footwear to generate power from walking or running,
providing energy for embedded electronics.
4. Vibration Energy Harvesting: Utilized in industrial applications to capture energy from
machinery vibrations, powering monitoring systems
5.Consumer Electronics: Integrated into devices like keyboards and mouse
enerating energy with each key press or movement.
6. Automotive Applications: Harnessing energy from road vibrations or vehicle movements
for powering small sensors and devices.
Conclusion
In conclusion, spring assist piezo generators are innovative devices that harness
mechanical energy to generate electricity. They offer unique advantages in
energy harvesting, particularly for low-power applications like wearable devices,
remote sensors, and smart technologies. However, their limited power output,
efficiency issues, and potential for wear and tear must be carefully considered. As
technology advances, improvements in design and materials could enhance their
performance and broaden their applicability, making them a valuable solution for
sustainable energy harvesting in various fields.
