An organization consists of the stable collaboration of actors to


achieve common general objectives through a division of labor
and functions, and through pre-defined modes of coordination.

Definition of a Manager

Management refers to the process by which activities are carried out


efficiently and effectively

Performance is aimed at reducing the cost of resources used while


efficiency is about carrying out activities.

The management process is based on 4 basic functions: planning,


organization, leadership and control.
• Planning : Defining objectives
• Organisation : Determining how to achieve them
• Leadership : Motivating & directing the workforce
• Control : Supervising activities

 Combination and Optimization of these 4 factors is ESSENTIAL

Preparation of Session 3 = Motivation

3 theories to be studied (1 theory per pair/trio):


•Theory of achievement goals (Locke)

•Equity theory - organizational justice (Adams)

•Theory of hierarchy of needs (Maslow)

Definitions: Chapter 7 "Organizational Behaviors", Robbins &Judge

 Prepare 1 to 2 slides of presentation of the assigned theory


 Choose a personal/professional example to illustrate this theory.
