Input & Output devices

Input Devices

 An device is any piece of equipment that is used to input data into the
computer.
 Input devices are keyboard and mouse and an integrated video camera.
 Other input devices are microphone, joystick, scanner, barcode reader.

Keyboard

 Keyboard is a device used to enter characters at the location on the


screen marked by the insertion point.
 Keyboard can be built into a device, attached by inserting the keyboard
wired cable or wireless receiver into USB port.
 Many Keyboards today include touch pads, scroll wheel for easier control
over some function
 Some keyboard also include fingerprint reader or other biometric reader
Mouse

 A mouse is an input device which is used to select any icon or thing on the
desktop.
 Mouse is typically contain 2-3 button (left, right and middle) and a scrolling
wheel and a sensor to tracks.
 There are 5 types of mouse
1- Wired mouse
2-Wireless mouse
3-Optical mouse
4-Laser mouse
5-Tracked mouse
Scanner

 A scanner is device that captures images or text from physical sources


and convert them into digital data.
 Components of scanner are following
1- Scan head
2- lens or mirror
3- sensor
 Common uses scanner are following.
1- Document digitization.
2- Photo preservation.
3-Art and Design projects.
Barcode Reader

 A barcode reader, also known as barcode scanner, is a device that reads and
decodes barcode, converting them into digital data.
 Barcode reader works in the following way;
reader scans the barcode. Then light reflect off the barcode. Sensor detects
reflected light. Reader recode barcode data and sent to computer.

1-Laser Barcode Reader
2-Imaging Barcode Reader
3-Mobile Barcode Reader
4-Wireless Barcode Reader
Track Ball

 A trackball is an input device that consists of a large ball housed in a socket, allowing users
to control the cursor by rotating the ball with their fingers or palm.
 Advantages:
• Space-Saving:
• Requires less desk space compared to a traditional mouse.
• Precision Control:
• Ideal for graphic design and detailed tasks.
• Accessibility:
• Beneficial for users with limited mobility in their hands.
 Applications:
• Graphic design and CAD
• Gaming (for precision control)
• Office work and general computing
Joystick

 A joystick is an input device used to control video games, simulations,


and various computer applications through directional movement.
 Applications:
• Gaming: PC and console use.
• Simulators: Flight and driving simulations.
• Robotics: Control of robotic systems
 Types of Joysticks:
Racing Wheel; For driving games
Analog; Smooth, varying movement
Digital; Discrete up, down, left, right
Output Devices

 An output device is a hardware component of a computer system that


displays information or results to users.
 Out devices include monitors, printers, speakers, headphones, projectors, GPS
devices, optical mark readers, and braille readers.

Projector

 An optical device that displays images or videos on a surface, such as a


screen or wall.
 Applications: projector are use in the following
• Business presentations
• Home theatres
• Education (classrooms)
• Events and entertainment
Speaker

 An output device that converts electrical signals into sound, allowing users to
hear audio from computers, TVs, and other devices.
 Types of Speakers:
• Passive Speakers: Require an external amplifier.
• Active Speakers: Built-in amplifiers for direct connection.
• Bluetooth Speakers: Wireless, portable options.
 Applications:
• Home audio systems
• Computers and gaming setups
• Public address systems
• Music production and mixing
