What is a Computer System ?
• A computer along with additional hardware and software
together is called a computer system. A computer system primarily
comprises a central processing unit (CPU),
memory, input/output devices and storage devices.
Components of Computer
System
• Input Devices
• Output Devices
• Processing Devices
• Storage Devices
• Hardwares
Input Devices
• Input Devices are the devices which give data and
instructions to the computer.
• Input Devices are also called pointing devices.
• Example :- keyboard , mouse , etc.
Output Devices
• An output device is any piece of computer hardware equipment
which converts information into a human-perceptible form.
• Examples include monitors, printers, speakers, headphones,
projectors, GPS devices, optical mark readers, and braille readers.
Processing Devices
• Processing devices are the components responsible for the
processing of information within the computer system.
• This includes devices such as the CPU, memory and motherboard.
Storage devices are components which allow data to be stored
within a computer system.
Storage Devices
• A storage device is any type of computing hardware that is used
for storing, porting or extracting data files and objects.
• Examples - Hard Disk, CD, DVD, Pen/Flash drive, SSD, etc.
Hardware
• Computer hardware includes the physical parts of a computer.
• The parts that can be touched or be seen.
• Types of hardwares –
• External
• Internal
External Hardware
• External hardware components, also called peripheral components,
are those items that are often externally connected to the
computer to control either input or output functions.
Internal Hardware
• Internal hardware components are those necessary for the
proper functioning of the computer, while external hardware
components are attached to the computer to add or enhance
functionality.
