Definition of
Physical fitness
Physical
Fitness
• Physical fitness is the ability of the body systems
to work together efficiently to allow a person to be
healthy and perform activities of daily living
without fatigue.
• A state of well-being where the risk of premature
health problems is minimized, and individuals
have the energy and strength to participate in a
variety of physical activity.
• refers to the persons ability to execute daily task
with optimal performance, endurance, and
strength.
Key Components of
Physical fitness
Key Components Physical Fitness
• Body Composition: the proportion of fat and non-
fat mass (muscles, bones, organs) in the body.
• Flexibility: the range of motion available in a joint
or series of joints.
• Muscular strength: the maximum amount of force
a muscle can exert in a single effort.
• Muscle Endurance: the ability of muscle to perform
repeated constructions over time without
becoming fatigued.
• Cardiorespiratory endurance: the heart and lungs’
ability to supply oxygen to the muscles during
sustained physical activity.
Skill-Related Fitness
Skill-Related Fitness

• Skill-related fitness refers to the

abilities that help individuals learn
and perform movements necessary
to demonstrate motor skills and
movement patterns successfully.
Component of Skill-Related Fitness
• Agility: The ability to rapidly move the
whole body with a change in velocity or
direction in response to a stimulus. This
includes efficiently changing direction in
a controlled manner.
• Balance: The capacity to maintain the
body's center of gravity within the base
of support, allowing individuals to stay
in control of body positions.
Component of Skill-Related Fitness
• Coordination: The ability to perform
smooth, efficient movements by
executing controlled and accurate
motor responses.
• Speed: The rate at which a person
can move all or part of their body or
cover a distance in a short period of
time.
Component of Skill-Related Fitness

• Power: The ability to exert maximum

force in a short time, combining
strength and speed to move quickly.
Reaction Time: The duration it takes
for an individual to respond to a
stimulus after perceiving it.
Principles of Physical
Training
and FITT Principles
Definition of FITT

• FITT is an acronym for Frequency,

Intensity, Time, and Type. It serves
as a guideline for structuring and
improving physical workout plans.
FITT Principles
FITT Principle
• Frequency (F) : Refers to how often
an individual engages in a particular
health-related physical activity. For
health-related fitness, a safe
recommendation is to train three to
five times per week.
FITT Principle
• Intensity (I) : Describes how hard an
individual exercises during a
physical activity period. The
intensity level can vary based on the
component of health-related fitness
targeted (e.g., light, moderate, or
vigorous).
FITT Principle

• Time (T) : The length or duration of

the physical activity session. This
can vary depending on the fitness
goal, such as endurance or strength
training.
FITT Principle
• Type (T) : Refers to the specific
exercise or activity that is being
performed. For example, running
improves cardiovascular endurance,
while resistance training focuses on
muscular strength.
