What is a file?
 A file is an object on a computer that stores data, information,
settings, or commands used with a computer program
 On a computer, examples of files include text documents,
spreadsheets, digital pictures, and even songs.
 Every picture you take with a digital camera, for example, is
a separate file, and a music CD might contain a dozen
individual song files.

What is a folder?
 A folder is a container in which you can store
files.
 Arranging files into logical groups makes it easy
to locate any particular file.
 Not only do folders hold files, but they also can
hold other folders. A folder within a folder is
usually called a subfolder

1. Open the “My documents” folder g!

2. Right-click on an empty space inside this folder


3. In the context menu move the mouse over “New”
4. In the submenu click onto “Folder”
5. Write “Test folder” as the name of the new folder
6. Click Enter

1. Double click the icon of your “Test folder” to open it


2. Inside the folder click with the right mouse button
3. On the context menu move the mouse over “New”
4. In the submenu click on “Folder”
5. Write your name as the name of the new folder

1. Open your “Private” Folder


2. Right click on the icon of the “Pictures” folder
3. On the context menu click “Copy”
4. Go inside your “Work” folder
5. Right click on an empty space
6. On the context menu click “Paste”

1. Open your “Work” Folder


2. Right click on the icon of the “Pictures” folder
3. On the context menu click “Rename”
4. Write “Word documents” as the new name of
this folder
Additional learning: Make a copy of this new
folder and rename it to “Excel documents”

Creating a shortcut

1. Inside your “Test Folder” right click on your


personal folder
2. On the context menu click “Create Shortcut”
3. Drag this shortcut to the desktop

 Right click on an file or folder

click “Properties”
 Here you see the properties
of the file or folder:

 Date of creation
 Date of modification

Delete folders

1. Inside your “My Documents” folder right click on


“Test folder”
2. On the context menu click “Delete” to delete this
folder and all of its content (all subfolders and files)
3. Delete the shortcut on the desktop you have created
before
