Pythagoras - The mathematician
Pythagoras, sometimes known as Pythagoras of Samos, was an ancient Greek
mathematician and philosopher. Today, many people are familiar with Pythagoras
because of the famous Pythagorean Theorem, which is a mathematical formula for
finding the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle.
The Pythagorean
Theorem

The Pythagorean
Theorem states that “In a
right-angled triangle, the
square of the hypotenuse
side is equal to the sum
of squares of the other
two sides“.

a² + b² = c².
In the given example we
can find the value of x
i.e the hypotenuse using
the Pythagorean
Theorem
As we know,
Proof of the Hypotenuse2 = Base2 +
Pythagorean Th Perpendicular2
eorem x 2 = 8 2 + 62
x2 = 64 + 36 = 100
x = √100 = 10
Therefore, the value of x
is 10.
Real Life Applications of
The Pythagorean Theorem
What are
Pythagorean
Triplets?
Pythagorean triplets (a, b, c) are three non-
negative integers that satisfy the condition
of Pythagoras theorem for a right-angled
triangle.
Some example of Pythagorean Triplets are:
• (3, 4, 5)
• (5, 12, 13)

Conclusion
• Named after the brilliant Greek mathematician Pythagoras, this theorem has
captivated minds for centuries. At its core, Pythagoras’ theorem states that in a
right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares
of the other two sides.

• By grasping the essence of this theorem, we can unlock a deeper understanding

of the relationships between sides and angles in a right-angled triangle, enabling
us to tackle real-world challenges with precision and confidence.
