Unit – 1

Assignment - 1

Col Vivek Mathur

Question 1
• Convert the following statement scale to Representative Fraction
Scale
• 1 cm = 2 m
• 1 cm = 10 m
Question 2
• Using a scale of 1:1000 on a map, if a distance measures
5 centimetres, what is the actual length on the ground?
• Additionally, if an area on the map measures 25 square centimetres,
what would be the actual area on the ground?
Question 3
• The main plate of a theodolite is divided into 1080 equal parts. The
60th division on the Vernier scale coincides exactly with 59th division
on the main scale. Determine least count (LC) of theodolite
Question 4
• A surveyor measures a distance between two points drawn on the
map drawn to a scale of 1 cm = 1 m (RF = 1/100) and found it to be
100 m. Later he discovered that he used a wrong scale of 1 cm = 50
cm (RF = 1/50) for measurement. Determine the correct length?
• What would be the correct area if measured area is 500 sq m .
Question 5
• The area of the plan of an old survey plotted to a scale of 10 metres
to 1 cm measures now 100.6 sq. cm as found by a planimeter. The
plan is found to have shrunk so that a line originally 10 cm long now
measures 9.5 cm only. Find out
• The shrunk scale
• True area of the survey
Question 6
• Construct a scale 1 cm = 4 m to read to a metre and show on it 47m.
Scale
A Scale should fulfil the following conditions.
• It is shown near the title of the map so that it can be readily seen.
• It should be sufficiently long. (Usually between 18cm to 27cm but
not more than 32cm.
• It should be accurately divided and carefully numbered.
• The zero must always be placed between the units and its
subdivisions.
• The name of the scale together with its representative fraction
should be written on the plan.
• It should be easily read and should not involve any calculations.
Question 7
• Construct a diagonal scale 1 cm = 2.5 km and show on it 32.6 km.
Question 8
• The distance between two points on a map is 1.8 cm. Actual distance
on ground between the two points is 9 Km. Construct a scale for the
map and mark on it 43.6 Km.
Question 9
• A plan represents an area of 14143 sq m and measures 8.6 by 6.5 cm.
Draw the scale of the plan to read 1m.
