About Festivals
What is the history of festivals?

The word festival was originally used as an adjective from the late
fourteenth century, deriving from Latin via Old French. In Middle
English, a festival dai was a religious holiday. Its first recorded
used as a noun was in 1589 (as Festifall).
When did festival start?

The term festival first showed up in the English language in the

middle of the 16th century, derived from feast and most often
centered around the harvest. In 1952, the Newport Jazz Festival
was founded in Rhode Island, marking the inception of festival
culture to the Western world.
Why do we celebrate festivals?

The main reason we celebrate festivals is because the majority of

them are more or less religiously centered and thus we come to
honor our religions. But festivals also give a sense of enjoyment,
relaxation and offer the time needed to bond with family members
whom we never really see.
What value do festivals teach us?

Festivals act like stress relievers and help us balance our

emotions. More positivity naturally lowers negativity. It also
provides an opportunity to reduce friction and brings estranged
friends and relatives together in a bond of love. Nothing brings
people together like festivals do.
FESTIVE BONDING

Condensing our exposure to cultural activities over a specific time

and place, which means that festival participants must be there
present and engage in culture simultaneously with others,
resulting in meaningful shared memories.
Teaching us something new about our neighbors, strengthening
our relationships, and fostering community pride by bringing
people together from all walks of life.
Motivating us to be better people and to share our joy with the
world.
Sharing special meals or food.
Giving presents or cards.
Attending a place of worship.
Decorating homes and the community with lights
FESTIVE FOOD

It can unite and strengthen community bonds and helps to

maintain a common identity among a group of people. We crave
for exceptional dishes which are only prepared on festive days. We
feel overwhelmed after eating the festive food and the feeling is
amazing.
