1
Look at the picture, can you tell what picture
is this? What shape do you see on the
picture?

2
On the board is a triangle, and this
triangle has three points and three
sides. The points are points Y, X, and
Z, and the sides are YX, XZ and YZ.
Now, observe the triangle, are the
sides in the same length?
Expected answer: Sides are not in the
same length.
For today’s lesson, we are going to
discuss the properties and
classification of triangles according to
2

sides.
Before we start our lesson, let us first
give the meaning of the following
terms.
•The prefix “tri” in triangle means
three.
•A triangle is a three-sided polygon.
•A polygon is a closed plane figure
whose sides are segments.
•A vertex is the point of intersection
where two sides meet.
•The symbol Δ is read as “triangle”.
2
1.An equilateral triangle is a triangle
that all sides are equal.
2.An isosceles triangle is a triangle
that two sides are equal.
3.A scalene triangle is a triangle that
no sides are equal.

2
A triangle is a three-sided figure with three (3) vertices, three (3) sides, and
three
(3) angles. Triangles are named using its vertices (plural for vertex) in a
clockwise or counterclockwise order.
For example, looking at our figure, the vertices of the triangle are points X, Y,
and
Z. When we say vertex, it

is a corner point. It is the intersection point of two sides of a polygon. It is a

point where two sides meet. In naming triangles, you may start from any
vertex. Looking back at the figure, what are the names of the triangle?

2
Expected answer: The triangle is named as ∆XYZ or
∆YZX or ∆ZXY or ∆XZY or ∆ZYX or ∆YXZ.

2
Now, here are the classifications of triangles based on the length of
its sides.
1. Equilateral triangle - a triangle where all sides are of equal length
(The marks or ticks (/) found on the sides of the triangle tell us which
sides have equal measurements.)
2. Isosceles triangle – a triangle with two sides of equal3 length
3. Scalene triangle – a triangle with no equal sides

2. I am a triangle with 3 equal sides.
3. I am a triangle with 2 equal sides.
4. I am a 3-sided polygon

3
Now, look at the triangle figures above. What differences do you notice? Are the lengths of their sides the
same?

Expected Answer: They are different in their sides measurement. No, the measures of sides are not the
same.

Now, here are the classifications of triangles based on the length of its sides.
•Equilateral triangle - a triangle where all sides are of equal length
(The marks or ticks (/) found on the sides of the triangle tell us which sides have equal measurements.)

isosceles triangle with two sides are equal and scalene triangle with no equal sides.
Name the triangles.

Isosceles triangle and scalene triangle

Lesson Purpose/Intention (3 Yesterday, we classified triangles according to sides. This time we are going to classify triangles according
minutes) to angles.
Look at the figures, are angles on the triangles have the same measures?

Expected answer:
No, the triangles have different measures of angles.

Now we are going to discuss the different kinds of triangles according to angles.

7
Lesson Language Practice Before we begin our discussion, let’s define some important terms related to triangles:
(3minutes) •Acute triangle: A triangle where all three angles are less than 90 degrees.
•Obtuse triangle: A triangle with one angle greater than 90 degrees.
•Right triangle: A triangle that is one angle is exactly 90 degrees.
•Equiangular triangle: A triangle with three equal angles, each is measuring 60 degrees.

•Right Triangle – ∆ABC, this is a triangle with a right angle that measures 90◦.
•Acute Triangle – this is a triangle with all three interior angles measuring less than 90 degrees. The
acute angles in triangle ABC are angles A, B, and C.
•Obtuse Triangle – this is a triangle with an obtuse angle. The obtuse angle in triangle ABC is angle C.
•Equiangular Triangle - has three equal angles or equal to 60◦

properties. For now, we will focus on the types of quadrilaterals, which are the parallelogram, rectangle,
and square.
Lesson Language Practice Let us start our discussion. These are the terms related to quadrilaterals.
(3minutes) •A quadrilateral is a four-sided figure.
•A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides.

A diagonal is a segment joining two opposite vertices of a polygon. It divides a quadrilateral into two
