Background :

q Air pollution is a significant global issue, driven by urbanization,

industrialization, and increasing vehicle emissions.
q Growing concerns over climate change have highlighted the
importance of monitoring air quality.
q Poor air quality is linked to health problems, including asthma, heart
disease, and respiratory conditions.
q Many small towns and rural regions lack affordable and accessible
air quality monitoring systems.
Introduction

Literature
Reviewy :
• Related Work:
• Traditional air quality monitoring systems are often
expensive and not accessible to smaller communities.
• Previous projects using low-cost sensors lacked
accuracy or real-time alert mechanisms.
• Key Findings:
• Affordable sensors, with proper calibration, can
produce reliable data similar to expensive systems.
• Combining multiple sensors improves the overall
picture of air quality.
• There is a trend towards integrating such systems
with mobile applications for accessibility.

Methodology
 Approach:
 Develop a prototype using an Arduino microcontroller and gas sensors.
 Collect and process data on harmful gases in real-time to determine air quality.
 Trigger alerts when pollutants exceed safe thresholds, and display results on a
16x2 LCD.

 Process/Steps:
 Sensor Calibration: Ensure accuracy through proper calibration.
 Data Collection: Use Arduino to gather data from gas sensors.
 Data Processing: Filter and process data to remove noise.
 Display & Alerts: Show data on an LCD and trigger alerts for unsafe levels.
 Evaluation: Validate sensor data against standardized pollution levels.

Expected Result :

•1. Real-Time Air Quality Data: - The

system will provide immediate readings of
pollutants like CO₂, CO, SO₂, CH₄, VOCs,
and LPG concentrations on the 16x2 LCD
display.
•2. Environmental Awareness: - Users can
identify pollution levels and take preventive
actions, fostering environmental
consciousness in the community.
14
Discussion :
 Implications:
 Contributes to the field of low-cost environmental monitoring, making air quality data
more accessible.
 Could serve as a basis for more advanced systems, integrating IoT and mobile apps.

 Limitations:
 Sensor accuracy may vary due to calibration and environmental factors—regular
validation is needed.
 Detection limited to the gases supported by the selected sensors.
 Basic real-time alerts; future improvements could include cloud storage and predictive
analytics.
