What is the definition of computer?

Computer is an electronic device which can calculate the


number such as addition, subtraction, division and
multiplication as well as perform logical operation
utilizing a set of predefine instruction or program.

There two different part of computer which are:

What is the definition of hardware?

Hardware is the physical existence of a computer system.

For an example:
Motherboard
Processor or Microprocessor
ALU
RAM or Main Memory
ROM (Read Only Memory)
etc.

What is the definition of software?

Software is the logical existence of a computer system.

There are two different types of software:

i) Application software
ii) System software

i) Application Software:

Application software (app for short) is a program or group


of programs designed for end users. Examples of
an application include a word processor, a spreadsheet, an
accounting application, a web browser, an email client, a
media player, a file viewer, an aeronautical flight simulator,
a console game or a photo editor etc.

What is Application Software Design for?

Application Software is a type of computer program that


performs a specific personal, educational, and business
function. Each program is designed to assist the user with a
particular process, which may be related to productivity,
creativity, and/or communication.

Few application software are:

MS Word, WordPad and Notepad.


Internet browsers like Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.
Microsoft Power Point, Keynotes.
Auto CAD.
MySQL, Oracle, MS Access.
Apple Numbers, Microsoft Excel.
Real Player, Media Player.

ii) System Software:

System software is software designed to provide a platform for


other software. Examples of system software include operating
system like macOS, GNU/Linux, Microsoft Windows, Computational
Science software, game engine, industrial automation and software as
a service application.
There are three different types of system software:
i) System Management Program (Operating
system)
ii) System Development Program
(Compiler/Interpreter)
iii) Utility software

Utility Software:

For historical reasons, some organizations use the term systems


programmer to describe a job function which is more accurately
termed system administrator. Software tools these employees use are
then called system software. This so-called utility software helps to
analyze, configure, optimize and maintain the computer, such as virus
protection. In some publications, the term system software also
includes software development tools (like a compiler, linker or
debugger.

The importance of computer for modern society:

The fact that computers have considerably changed the lives of human
beings can hardly be denied. These days the majority of us cannot
imagine our lives without computer technology.

Computers make people’s lives easier and more comfortable: this


technology can provide opportunities for staying in touch to billions of
people who may very well be in different parts of the world.
Today people can drive computerized cars and work for employers
from other countries without even seeing them.

The importance of computer for modern society:

There also exists an idea that computer is an electronic brain that people can rely on.
Yes, I agree that computers are crucial elements to business people and those who
need
them for work, for study and for Entertainment.

But what do you think about young school-age boys and girls using computers?
(Less Education values for kids through online class)

Personally, I believe that their access to computer and the Internet should be limited.
I have no objections if they play various games or chat with their friends online from
time to time. Yet it often happens so that children start to search for homework
solutions
on the Internet what becomes a bad habit. Instead of trying to deal with the

The importance of computer for modern society:

Computers also affect the health of young people. First of all, those who spend a lot of
time in front of the screens of their computers suffer from the lack of physical activity.
These children often have scoliosis and eye problems like glaucoma.

The computer technology is blessed for current situation COVID-19 to conduct the
online classes instead of face to face classes in the tertiary level or higher education
sector in Bangladesh as well as globally to safe the time and life of the
Students to completion of their education on time.

The students will resolve the following questions:


What are the advantages or merits of computer technology?
What are the disadvantages or demerits or drawback of computer technology?
