1989: Convention on the Rights of the Child
- adopted by the UN General Assembly on 20 November 1989 and entered into force in September 1990; 196 countries - roles of children as social, economic, political, civil and cultural actors - Philippines signed the UN CRC on January 26, 1990, making it the 109th country to sign the Convention. It was ratified by the Philippine Senate on August 21, 1990.

In the Philippines… The State shall defend the right of children to assistance, including proper care and nutrition, and special protection from all forms of neglect, abuse, cruelty, exploitation, and other conditions prejudicial to their development.
