Directions: Identify the following characteristics of a good

research title if is CORRECT or WRONG

Characteristics of a Good Remarks
Research Title
1. It must be specific.
2. It must be lengthy.
3. It must be original.
4. It describes what is the
study all about.
5. It must be within 20 or
more substantive word
requirement of the APA.
Students have different ways in processing information;
some may prefer audio-visual presentation; others drama and
imitating or reasoning logically and intuitively, or analyzing and
envisioning. Teacher style also vary. Some professors used
traditional way of teaching; others used the new trend in
technology; some focus on principles and others on
presentations.
When the learning style of professors are incompatible, the
students may become inattentive, distracted, uninterested, their
achievement level goes down, and eventually leads to school
dropout. For intervention used in this study is the student’s
devises games-simulation. Games-simulation is introduced as a
method in teaching in medical fields recently through interactive
video games (Rosser, Lynch, Caddihy, Gentile, Klanssky, & Merill,
2007)
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
An overview of the research study and explains
why you, as researchers are doing the study.
It provides information that is important to
understand the main body of the research
investigation, which could be related to any one of the
following:
1. Historical development
2. Cultural development
3. Academic development
4. Scientific finding and others.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Purpose:

To help the researcher to prove the

relevance of his or her research question and to
further develop his or her thesis.
The background of the study includes:

1. A review of the area being researched.

2. current information surrounding the issue.
3. Previous studies on the issue.
4. relevant history of the issue.
5. effectively set forth the history and background
information on the problem.
In writing a background of the study these are some
suggested things to be done.

1. Conduct a primary research at the beginning

stages of formulating a thesis when many issues are
unclear.

2. Read the information and develop a research

question of thesis statement that will guide your
research.

3. Write a thesis statement or research question.

4. Complete your research using your thesis
statement and research question as your guide.

5. Create five separate sections that cover the key

issues, major findings and controversies surrounding
your thesis as well as sections that provide an
evaluation and conclusion.

6. Conclude by identifying and further study what

needs to be done in the area or provide possible
solutions to the issue that haven’t been considered
before.
Stating Research Questions
Research is an opportunity for us to ask questions
about almost everything. Therefore, research gives us
the chance to learn as much as we can through the
research question.

Note: “we will not remain fools if we ask questions”

Purpose of Research Questions
Specify the scope and the method in
collecting and analyzing data
Give focus to the research study
Guide the appropriateness of the
decisions the researcher made
Types of Quantitative Research
Questions
1. Relation
2. Causal
3. Descriptive
1. Relation
 are questions about the nature and manner of
connection between or among variables.

Example Relation Questions:

What is the relationship between the time spent in

studying and the grades of students?

Is there a significant difference with the scores of the

respondents during the pretest and posttest?
2. Causal
 reasons behind the effects of the independent
variable on the dependent variable is the focus
of these types of research questions.
Example of Causal Questions:
What is the impact of social media to the academic
performance of students?

What are the effects of Covid19 pandemic to the study

habits of students?
3. Descriptive
 ask questions on the kind, qualifications, and
categories of the subjects or participants.

Example of Descriptive
Questions:
What is the profile of the respondents in terms of age,
gender, average family income, and distance of their
house from school?
two approaches to quantitative research
questions:
1. Deductive approach
 goes from bigger ideas such as theories or
concepts to smaller ideas.
2. Inductive approach
focus on description of things to prove.
Central to this approach are specific details to
prove the validity of a certain theory or
concept.
