Introduction to Six Sigma Concept

 Definition : Six sigma is a quality control method that used to eliminate

defects and improve business process that further boost the profit.
● This concept was given by American engineer Bill Smith of Motorola
company in 1984.
● Today, it is used in many industrial sectors for minimizing error, cost
reduction and increase in profit.
Objective of Six Sigma Concept

➢ Focus on customer
➢ Customer satisfaction
➢ Reduce cost
➢ Reduce chances of defects
➢ Business/Industrial benefits
➢ Process improvement
Six Sigma Methodology

❏ Two methodologies used in the Six Sigma Concept -

DMAIC: - DMADV:-
● D= Define ● D= Define
● M= Measure ● M= Measure
● A= Analyze ● A= Analyze
● I= Improve ● D= Design
● C= Control ● V= Verify
DMAIC Method
❏ DMAIC is used to enhance the existing business Process.
❏ It involved 5-phases.
❖ Define: Define the problem or project goal that heedy to be addressed.

❖ Mesure: Measure the problem and process From which it was Produced.

❖ Analyze: Analyze data Process to determine root cause and of defects and opportunities.

❖ Improve: Improve the process by finding diminish and Prevent future Probleme. solutions to fix.

❖ Control: Implement, control and sustain the improvement solution ions to keep the process on new
course.
DMADV Method
❏ DMDV is used to create new product design or process design.
❏ It involved 5 phases.
❖ Define: Define the problem or project Goal that needs to be addressed.

❖ Measure: Measure and determine customer`s needs and specifications.

❖ Analyze: Analyze the process to meet the customer needs.

❖ Design: Design a process that will meet customer`s needs.

❖ Verify: Verify the design performance and ability to meet customer needs.
Application of Six Sigma in Industry

➢ To support overall business improvement.

➢ To reduce defects and waste.
➢ To reduce cost and increase profit without compromising the quality of product.
