Definition of Terms:

1. Patrol – is a detachment sent out in unit to


perform an assigned mission of
reconnaissance or combat or a combination
of both.

2. Patrol Order – An order issued by a leader


setting from the Five (5) basics paragraph of
OPORD/OPLAN.

3. Warning Order – Preliminary motive of an


action to follow.
4. Area Interest – it is the part of the AOR
without effect of the Commander plan for
current/future operation.

5. Area of Influence – it is a part of the area


of interest where commander may influence
action of his maneuver force, supporting fires
and support units.

6. Route – an access intended for use of the


patrol in going or in or from objective.
7. Primary Route – Route intended for use of
the patrol to object and route is returning to
friendly forces.

8. Alternate Route – Route intended for use of


the patrol when the Primary route is not
feasible.

9. Rallying Point – Point where the patrol were


assemble or re – organized.
10. Initial Rallying Point – Located within
friendly forces.

11. Rallying Point Route – Located between


the friendly area and the objectives.

12. Objective Rallying Point – Located near


the objective which may be in the front, rear or
flanks.
AIMS OF PPATROLLING

1. To gain and retain initiative


2. To gather information
3. To deny information to the enemy
4. To harass the enemy
5. To provide protection
6. To provide security
TWO (2) Types of Patrol

1. According to nature of mission:

a. Recon patrol – move to specific point or area,


gather requirements information through
observance and report information obtained.
They will about enemy contact whenever
possible. Fighting only when necessary to
accomplishment the mission.

b. Combat Patrol – are heavily detachment


sent out to kill or capture the enemy, destroy his
equipment or installation. The size of the combat
patrol is consistent with the assigned mission.
2. According to range

a. Long Range – Operates in the


dispatching unit area of influence to
the area of interest or both.

b. Short Range – Operates in


the dispatching unit area of influence
for short distance period.
General Classification of Patrol

1. Recon Patrol

a. Point Recon – Specific area


b. Area Recon – without AOR/area of influence

2. Combat patrol

a. Raid
b. Ambush
c. Contact
d. Economy of force
e. Security
Patrol can be done during:

1. Day Patrol

a. Disperse to maximum
b. AOR is assignment to the front, rear and flanks
c. Cautions movement along high ground.
d. Avoid exposed area
e. Maintain area.
f. Search and attack

2. Night patrol
a. Distance
1) Zero visibility
2) Limited visibility
b. Use of Password
Factors to be considered in the Conduct of
Comat Patrol

1. Formation and order of movement

2. Require independent/semi-independent action.

Purpose of Warning Order


The purpose of the Warning Order is to give ample time to participating
unit to prepare prior jump – off.

Characteristics of Warning Order:

1. Brief Statement of Mission


2. Mission of the Patrol
3. General Instructions:
a. General and Specific organization
b. Uniform/equipment common to All
c. Weapon/Ammunition and Equipment
d. Chain of Command
e. Time Schedule for pre-trial and guidance rehearsal
f. Time and place for inspection and rehearsal

4. Specific Instructions:
a. To subordinate leader
b. To specific purpose teams/Key individual
Steps in Conducting Patrol

1. Study/analyze the mission


2. Plan use of time
3. Study the terrain situation
4. Organize the Patrol
5. Select men, weapon and equipment
6. Issue Warning Order
7. Coordinate
8. Conduct reconnaissance

 Use of arm and hand signal
