Casing Design

● Factors Considered

● Lithology/downhole and Mud Window Considerations

● Minimum Yield Strength

● Tensile Strength

● Collapse Strength

● Burst Pressure

● Safety Factors

● Intrinsic Properties
Casing Design: Conductor

● Measured from the measured depth of 272 to 350 meters (~256 feet column length)

 Prevent adverse effects of sa

● Mud Window does not deviate drastically from surface to measured depth

 Opted to use 4 casing strings: Conductor, Surface, Intermediate, and Production Casing

 Using only 3 casings might require higher grades to compensate for the increasing temperature pressure conditions as it extends to greater depths

 Without higher grades, casing could potential collapse or have permanent deformation

● Possible Encounter with Sour Gas

 Nearby wells encountered sour gas downhole at depths of __________

 Potential negative effects such as corrosion of the casing strings

 Need to consider the material property of the casing placed at the depth of encountered sour gas
Casing Design: Production Tubing

Given Data
• Max Casing-Tubing Annulus Pressure = 6500 psi
• Production Tubing OD = 7”
Major Aspects to Consider
 Withstand the Collapse Pressure of 6500 psi
 Minimum Yield Strength
 Body Yield Strength Limitation
 Inner Diameter of Production Casing

● Definition: the minimum stress a pipe can experience before becoming plastically deformed

● Each casing must sustain it’s own weight from its lengths

● Preliminary steps

1. Identified casing placement depths and determined the length of each casing

2. Measured the weight of each casing string and
