USER INTERFACE DESIGN (UID)

• User interface (UI) design or user interface engineering is the design

of user interfaces for machines and software
• User Interface (UI) Design focuses on
• anticipating what users might need to do
• ensuring that the interface has elements that are easy to access,
understand
• use to facilitate those actions
• UI brings together concepts from interaction design, visual design,
and information architecture
• Doing so will help with task completion, efficiency, and satisfaction.
• Interface elements include but are not limited to:
• Input Controls: buttons, text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons,
dropdown lists, list boxes, toggles, date field
• Navigational Components: breadcrumb, slider, search field,
pagination, slider, tags, icons
• Informational Components: tooltips, icons, progress bar,
notifications, message boxes, modal windows
• Containers: accordion
IMPORTANCE OF USER INTERFACE DESIGN (UID)

• A user interface (UI) is the space where interactions between humans

and machines occur
• User interfaces are composed of one or more layers, including a
human-machine interface (HMI) that interfaces machines with
physical input hardware such as keyboards, mice, or game pads, and
output hardware such as computer monitors, speakers, and printers
• The difference between User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX)
is that UI refers to the aesthetic elements by which people interact
with a product, while UX is about the experience a user has with a
product or service
BENEFITS OF USER INTERFACE DESIGN
• Acquisition Of New Customers
• Increased Customer Engagement And Retention
• Lower Development Costs
• Lower Customer Support Costs
• Increased Productivity
COURSE OVERVIEW
• This course introduces strategies and tactics necessary to design user
interfaces, with particular emphasis on creating user interfaces for
mobile devices
• It focuses on teaching specific development techniques and strategies
COURSE OBJECTIVES

• This course enables the students to

To study the concept of menus, windows, interfaces
To study about business functions
To study the characteristics and components of windows and the
various controls for the windows
To study about various problems in windows design with color,
text, graphics and to study the testing methods
OVERVIEW OF MODULES
Module – 1 The User Interface-Introduction

Module – 2 The User Interface Design process

Module – 3 System menus and navigation schemes

Module – 4 Windows

Module – 5 Screen based controls

COURSE OUTCOMES
• Design the User Interface, design, menu creation, windows creation
and connection between menus and windows
QUESTION PAPER PATTERN
